You may have spent the past several weeks cleaning, shopping, cooking, and entertaining others over the holidays. You’re thankful for the opportunity to serve and give the way you have, but now it’s time to refresh and recharge YOU! To continue giving and serving others, we have to remember the importance of taking care of ourselves, and to re-fuel our own tanks. Failure to do so can lead to hidden resentment, exhaustion or burn-out.
So what are some ways we can recharge and take care of ourselves?
Quiet Time: Be sure to build in quiet time for prayer, devotion, reflection, planning, or to simply be quiet and still each day. This special time will go a long way in ministering to your spirit and soul. This will also help you better manage the challenges you’ll inevitably face down the road.
Schedule a Pampering Day. Whether it’s going to get your hair and nails done, or a much needed massage, finding time to pamper or treat yourself can certainly refresh your spirit. For some, pampering yourself may seem selfish since you’re so used to doing for others all the time. Just remember at the end of the day, caring for yourself means a healthier version of YOU.
Schedule Some “WE” Time. This is a special time when you spend with others who rejuvenate and energize your spirit, like your girlfriend(s) or a mentor. These special people are the encouragers or cheerleaders of your life. They are committed to your relationship and genuinely care about your happiness and well-being. Their words of encouragement or devoted listening ear are invaluable in our lives.
Invest in Support. Maybe you’ve always wanted to work with a nutritionist or a personal trainer to help lose weight or become healthier. Maybe you could use the accountability and support of a coach to go to the next level in your business, finances, or relationships. Whatever the challenge, hiring a professional may be just the thing you need to get unstuck and finally experience success.
As most of us are givers and we’re devoted to the care of others, it’s imperative to take time out and nourish our own spirit. When we do, we can be assured we’re giving the best version of ourselves. So, how do you refresh and rejuvenate?
